Re: High School Football
Cawood has an enrollment of 733. You're right, they're only known for basketball, not sure what that has to do with anything though, especially since in football they're on Lee's level. I didn't know Middlesboro was that low, my bad. But they're nowhere near Bell Co. in football?? Middlesboro went 11-2 this season in football. I can't think of any common oppenents the two teams played other than Leslie County and Bell Co. beat Leslie 7-0 and Middlesboro beat them 21-6 and then 21-13 again in the playoffs.
You are correct about Bell beating Lee that bad the last time they played and Lee did beat PV that year. The year before that was the one I'm talking about though. Bell Co. won 26-22 in a pretty good game that year.

Re: High School Football
Middlesboro was strong this year and it was a rebuilding year for Bell Co. I was mainly talking about basketball though when I said Middlesboro isn't on Bell's level. Which I can't say much about scheduling since our boys coach played Coeburn and Pound instead of Union Co. and Cumberland Gap like the girls play. No disrespect to Coeburn and Pound but we're talking about 2 solid 2A schools from TN. BTW did you guys play Cawood in Bball when the Hubbs kid played for them??

Re: High School Football
Yep, they played Cawood then too. His 2000th career point came against Lee.

... I had heard in the past that once Richlands hits single A numbers (Not that far off now) you can look for all of Tazwell Co schools to drop
[/ QUOTE ]
The "down the road" numbers I saw for Richlands don't make a drop look too promising anytime soon, unless they realign the boundries and move some kids into the Tazewell zone.

Re: High School Football
That kid was a great player. Him and Stuart Miller from Middlesboro were the 2 best I've seen in this area in a while.

There are only six schools with enrollments between Richlands' enrollment and that magical number that allows them to drop to Class A. With two new schools coming on line in 2007 and one in 2008, all of which will have higher enrollments than Richlands, only three other schools will have to have an erollment increase from less than 795 to over 795. There are at least a half dozen Class A schools with numbers between 700-737 that are located in "fast-growing" areas that will likely have enrollment numbers close to or above the 800 student mark by the next R&R cycle. I really think the Class A cutoff next time around will be very close to the 800 student mark, and if in fact it is, all schools in this end of the State will be Class A and will play Class A, with the exception of Abingdon.

1 school + 1 school= 1 new school.
unless people start seeing that our old traditions are not going to mean anything when we are being destroyed by school 2 and 3 times larger

Re: High School Football
From what I hear out of Tazewell County a drop to A status is all but certain the next cycle. Will Marion drop? Marion would be a geographically marginal school in both regions. It makes good sense for the Tazewell schools to drop- and one cannot blame Lee for dropping- the number of AA schools under a 1000 enrollment is getting fewer and fewer.

Not in NOVA/Hampton Roads area...
1 BIG AA school = 2 good-sized AA schools
They are not consolidating in those areas...they are building new schools to alleviate overcrowding in existing schools...
